Rebuilding Communities After Hurricane Katrina:
Affordable Housing and Economic Development on the Gulf Coast
March 29 - 30, 2007
Don Cesar Beach Resort
St. Pete Beach, FL
Conference Overview
Congress has allocated significant resources to address rebuilding in southern Louisiana,
Mississippi and Alabama following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. It is more
imperative than ever that the housing and community development industry come together
with federal, state and local officials to understand these programs and resources
in order to address the critical needs for housing and community development in
these areas.
The conference will address the myriad of federal resources which have been committed
to redevelopment in the GO Zone, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, New Markets
Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, public housing redevelopment funds, Community
Development Block Grant funds and HOME Funds. Panels will include a diverse range
of individuals representing private sector, state and local government officials
and non-profit developers. A primary focus of the conference will be on methods
to overcome obstacles that impede the optimal use of funding in community redevelopment
efforts. The conference will highlight "best practices" and make recommendations
for achieving strategic objectives of localities in fulfilling their redevelopment
plans.
