Biography of
Congressman Jefferson...
Why You Should Attend
Shelter from the Storm: Housing the Displaced After Hurricane Katrina is
the first national conference to deal with housing issues after Hurricane
Katrina devastated the southern parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. It
is more imperative now than ever that the housing industry has a thorough
understanding of federal, state and local government programs as well as
private sector response that will shape housing policy for those affected by
Hurricane Katrina and that we join together in a dialogue regarding how to
address the critical housing needs of those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
This seminar will explore up-to-the-minute developments that will affect the
rebuilding of these states, look at congressional actions to date and discuss
enacted legislation as well as pending measures. Representatives of HUD, IRS,
FEMA, RHS, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Habitat for Humanity, and
State Housing Agencies will address key issues that affect their programs,
projects and missions. The private sectors will explore initiatives undertaken
and planned for the housing industry to find permanent affordable housing
solutions for those displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
Lastly, this seminar will explore what lies ahead, assessing the feasibility of
proposed new initiatives and their chance of adoption, including the Single
Family Tax Credit for impacted areas, Disaster Enterprise Zones, Urban
Homesteading in Disaster Areas and additional changes to the Low Income Housing
Tax Credit(LIHTC).
We invite you to join in both staying current on issues, actions and new
developments and in thinking creatively about what the housing industry can do
to assist in the rebuilding effort after Hurricane Katrina.
